Looking to start a career in nonprofits, PR or special events? Want to help change the world? Break the Cycle is seeking interns to join our team of energetic professionals committed to social change! Break the Cycle is a national nonprofit that works with youth to end domestic violence.

This is no filing job. Gain hands-on experience that is PRACTICAL and looks great on your resume! Break the Cycle interns gain significant experience with a national nonprofit organization – building skills that can be applied to career in both the non-profit and corporate sectors. In addition to providing valuable experience, we offer a casual, friendly work environment where interns are encouraged to contribute and learn.

Development & Communications Internship

Development & Communications Interns will gain practical experience on what it takes to operate, promote and fundraise for a national nonprofit organization. Our interns work collaboratively with our development team, providing support in the areas of fundraising, events and communications. Responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with production of Break the Cycle’s annual food and wine benefit—Savor the Season, including silent auction and gift bag coordination, cookbook management and PR.
  • Researching, profiling and drafting grant proposals to foundation and corporate donor prospects.
  • Assisting with other fundraising and community relations efforts including Break the Cycle’s Volunteer Program, press kit development, data entry and drafting articles for our website and newsletters.

Programs Internship

The Program Interns provide support to our staff in the delivery of direct services to youth ages 12 to 24. Interns will receive training on domestic and dating violence, Break the Cycle’s services, and other relevant areas. Responsibilities may include:

  • Drafting and updating educational materials, assisting with original research
  • Responding to calls and emails from people seeking help and information
  • Working on Break the Cycle’s youth peer leadership initiatives
  • Creating and updating a listing of nation-wide referrals for victims of domestic and dating violence
  • Developing content for Break the Cycle’s youth website, thesafespace.org
  • Assisting with outreach and other administrative support for Break the Cycle’s educational and programmatic goals

Management Internship

Management interns will work side-by-side with Break the Cycle’s executive director, to assist with administrative and operational tasks to support the overall success of the organization. This is an opportunity to be exposed to all facets of nonprofit management. Responsibilities will vary and may include:

  • Conducting research on organizational best practices and policies
  • Preparing reports and communications for management team
  • Assisting with logistics and planning for board, staff, donor and community meetings
  • Providing general administrative support as needed

Commitment: 8-10 hours per week, minimum one school term

Become an Office Volunteer

Help make Break the Cycle’s National Headquarters and Los Angles office more productive and efficient. You will complete a variety of tasks from stuffing envelopes to calling important people. Volunteer your time to assist with the nuts and bolts of our operations.

Leadership Track

Want to do more? Once you have set up a regular schedule and proven dependable, you will find more interesting projects coming your way. Past office volunteers have created content for the web, participated in peer leader groups, created a data management system and more. We promise to use your talent and provide you with a valuable volunteer opportunity.

Commitment: Minimum 20 hours annually – 2-8 hours per week
