Press Release: Partnership with MyAKA

MyAKA and Break the Cycle Partner to End Dating Violence

MyAKA.com, LLC (My Also Known As), a Los Angeles based startup and emerging leader in the space of personal privacy, has announced a partnership with Break the Cycle, a leading national voice in the prevention of dating violence.

Los Angeles, CA (January 14, 2013) – MyAKA, the privacy company which enhances personal safety through its anonymous second number service, has formed a partnership with Break the Cycle, a nationally recognized non-profit organization that empowers young people to end domestic and dating violence.

In addition to promoting Break the Cycle initiatives through its extensive marketing, social and PR campaigns, on a monthly basis MyAKA will donate $1.00 (one dollar) for every purchase of its privacy service directly to Break the Cycle. This donation takes effect January 1st, 2013 and will run indefinitely with no cap on the monthly donation amount.

Through this partnership MyAKA and Break the Cycle will work together to raise awareness of the increasingly common, but rarely talked about, issue of dating violence. One in three teens will experience some form of abuse in their dating relationships and two thirds of those who do will not report it. By supporting Break the Cycle’s youth educational programs and peer support systems, MyAKA is proud to help “Break the Cycle” and stop abuse before it starts.

“MyAKA was created with belief that people deserve a bit of privacy in a world where information flows so freely,” stated John Skorick, Founder and CEO of MyAKA.com, LLC. “We wanted to help limit access to personal information not only as a matter of convenience, but more importantly, a matter of safety. Over the past six months we have been interested in working with a partner that aligned with our vision and through our intensive search we were very happy to discover Break the Cycle. Their name says it all, and we feel their work to end dating and domestic abuse before it starts through education and peer support is unique, effective and something we’re both honored and excited to be a part of.”

“Partnering with MyAKA is a natural fit for us, as we encourage young people to build safe relationships and learn how to set boundaries” said Marjorie Gilberg, Executive Director of Break the Cycle. “With the rise of digital abuse, MyAKA offers the opportunity for people to protect themselves. Now we are proud to compliment that mission with violence-prevention programs that stop abuse before it starts.”
