Make Your Voice Heard!

This February, Break the Cycle was proud to launch Let Your Heart Rule as part of 2011’s Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Thanks to our sponsor, HopeLine from Verizon, we awarded 500 schools free toolkits to raise awareness about dating violence. And once again, more than one million high school students across the country heard our National School Announcement!

Now, Break the Cycle and HopeLine from Verizon are raising the bar on raising awareness. On Monday, March 14, Break the Cycle launched the next step of Let Your Heart Rule – an anti-violence PSA contest that gives young people the chance to speak out on their own behalf.

Until April 12, schools can form student teams with the help of a teacher or school administrator to create their own dating abuse PSA. We will select five finalist videos. Then, people across America will pick the winning PSA by voting for their favorite. All finalists will receive Respect WORKS! – a model program by Break the Cycle and Hazelden Publishing that gives schools the tools they need to reduce violence on campus. Announced on May 3, the grand prize winner will also receive a $1,000 stipend for the school, tablet PCs for each of the student filmmakers and a chance to have their PSA premiered on Dr. Phil in late May!

We can’t wait to see all the amazing entries students from across the country will create to promote safe and healthy relationships. So think creative, think big and make your voice heard!
