Dear Friends,
On a magical night in September, Break the Cycle welcomed more than 300 guests to Louder than Words and asked the question: “How do you define love?” Break the Cycle’s definition was heard through the beautiful songs of Katie Thompson, Jonathan Larson, Jason Robert Brown and Jonathan Reid Gealt, and the talent of Autumn Reeser, Ariana Grande, Kelly Stables, Matt Doyle, Katie Thompson, Tom Lenk, Tituss Burgess, Beth Curry, Shelly Bort, Anne Fraser Thomas, Elizabeth Brackenbury, Beth Behrs and Lesli Margherita. We sincerely thank these and the many other people who made this event possible.
Break the Cycle’s passion was heard in the words of our Executive Director Marjorie Gilberg as she helped raise $10,000 during the Louder than Words performance thanks to the fundraising power of Square. And the importance of raising awareness was so clear in the remarks given by our guest speakers – General Hospital’s Nancy Lee Grahn and Lexi Ainsworth, actors Michelle Clunie and Rex Lee, talk show host Ryan O’Connor and of course, one of our most staunch supporters, the Honorable Lindsey Horvath of West Hollywood.
Looking back at Louder than Words, I return to the question we asked people as they entered the theatre: “How do you define love?” I myself define love as “admiration” and “gratitude.” I invite you to join the conversation about what love means to you, which Break the Cycle will be hosting in the coming months.
In a time and place where there are countless charitable organizations and events asking for donations, we are so grateful for those who chose to support Break the Cycle, for those who chose to say “this violence must stop” and for those who generously gave of their hearts and their pocketbooks to help Break the Cycle continue preventing abuse.
