Paper Tigers Documentary Screening & DiscussionHosted by: YWCA Richmond: Empower RVA Teens About:The YWCA Richmond’s Empower RVA Teens is hosting a free film screening and discussion of Paper Tigers. Paper Tigers follows a year in the life of an alternative high school that has radically changed its approach to disciplining its students, becoming a promising model for how to break cycles of poverty, violence, and disease that affect families. The film touches on dating and dating violence as part of trauma that can affect young people. The Empower RVA Teens will then lead a discussion around the film and what our next steps could be. When: February 15, 1:00-3:30 pm Where: West End Branch Library – Meeting Room A Empower RVA Teens is YWCA Richmond’s Teen Peer Facilitation program. This program is a student-led, community-service leadership opportunity for local high school-aged teens. It aims to prevent teen dating violence and sexual assault by educating and empowering teens to teach their peers about healthy relationships. Teens have the opportunity to learn about these important issues, facilitate workshops for their peers, and lead events and conversations throughout the year. Where:5420 Patterson Ave

Love Shouldn’t HurtHosted by: CT Valley Seventh Day Adventist Church About:A dating violence awareness seminar taking place in a church open to the community. Why in a church? For one, dating abuse (intimate partner violence) is a topic that is hardly spoken about in church but we know that it can affect anyone regardless of of gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic standing, ethnicity, religion or culture. We will be discussing what is dating abuse, how to identify signs, resources available, and “one thing” we can do as individuals, as a church, and as a community to make a difference.
