Volunteer Advocate

Want to have a direct impact on your community while gaining skills that look great on your résumé? Join Break the Cycle as a Volunteer Advocates in LA!

As an Advocate, you will conduct classroom presentations to youth ages 12 to 24 in Los Angeles County and the surrounding communities about dating violence and healthy relationships. We train Volunteer Advocates to use our [Ending Violence] curriculum, conduct basic data entry for program tracking and participate in future opportunities to assist with help services.

Advocates must be at least 21 years of age, have reliable transportation (including a valid driver license and proof of insurance) and be willing to submit to a background check and TB test.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities vary and may include:

  • Implementing our [Ending Violence] curriculum in schools and youth organizations around Los Angeles
  • Weekly phone meetings with Youth Programs Coordinator
  • Program tracking using Salesforce
  • Mandatory attendance on training dates:
    • October 2012:  (Date/Time TBD)
    • January 2013 : (Date/Time TBD)

How to Get Started

This is an unpaid volunteer program. Undergraduate, graduate and law students, as well as recent graduates, are welcome to apply. We ask Volunteer Advocates to be available Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 8:00am-3:00pm for presentations. Advocates must commit at least 2 hours a week for 14 weeks.
