Special Skills - Media Team

Break the Cycle�s Media Team is an auxiliary group of PR, marketing and media professionals who help promote our life-saving work with teens. This team meets over the phone on a monthly basis to brainstorm, offer expert advice, trouble-shoot and help goals for upcoming opportunities.

Skills You Will Use

• PR & Marketing - Apply your professional expertise to helping teens prevent, diagnose and escape unhealthy relationships. You will help spread a message of health, safety and empowerment to thousands of people nationwide.

Skills You Will Build

• Creativity - Think outside-of-the-box to help Break the Cycle reach a diverse group of stakeholders including teens, donors, volunteers and partners.
• Resourcefulness - At Break the Cycle, we are always looking for ways to use our resources more efficiently. Join our Media Team and learn how to turn a small budget into big results.

Leadership Track

The Media Team is similar to a "Board of Directors-in-training." Members will serve as high-level Break the Cycle volunteers and learn what it takes to sustain and maintain a successful, national nonprofit organization.

Commitment: 12-15 hours annually, including participation in monthly conference calls and ensuing projects if interested

Special Skills - Technical

Break the Cycle is proud to be on the cutting edge of technological trends when it comes to engaging, educating and empowering youth. However, our equipment and software is in need of regular maintenance and oversight. We need expert IT assistance to help us troubleshoot and maintain our computers, networks, database systems and software.

Skills You Will Use

• Server management
• Hardware and software maintenance and installation
• IT trouble shooting
• Strong communication

Skills You Will Build

• Working in a nonprofit environment
• Resourcefulness � solving big problems with little resources

Special Skills - Spanish Translation

Help Break the Cycle expand its work to other communities by reading and editing Spanish materials. You will receive (via e-mail) handouts that will need to be read for clarity and grammar and you will edit as necessary. Upon completion, materials will be e-mailed back to Break the Cycle. Frequency and amount of handouts may vary, approximately 4 per month.

Skills You Will Use

• Fluency in Spanish, including ability to read and write
• Ability to express and write information in clear and accurate, youth-friendly terms
• Self-discipline and diligence

Skills You Will Build

• Understanding of and ability to talk about domestic and dating violence in Spanish
• The process of writing, reviewing and editing materials
• Enhanced Spanish communication skills

How to Get Started

Complete the Break the Cycle volunteer application, specifying the Spanish translations volunteer service track. We will contact you for general information and to schedule an initial in-person meeting.

Leadership Track

Want to do more? Once you have edited a few of our handouts, you will have the opportunity to fully translate materials from English to Spanish. Help us increase our Spanish materials and get the (Spanish) word out fast!

Commitment: Available as necessary to edit materials in Spanish; can be done via online communication. One month minimum.
