Advocacy & Resource Coordinator, Los Angeles
Job Summary

The Advocacy & Resource Coordinator will work on a variety of projects which further Break the Cycle’s domestic violence prevention and early intervention work, including the organization’s Helpline and website, www.thesafespace.org. The Advocacy & Resource Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Programs and supervises volunteers and interns.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Managing and updating organization’s website, www.thesafespace.org, including creating new static and interactive content, implementing edits and changes to the site, and working with outside contractors to make major changes to the site when necessary
  • Responding to calls, messages and emails from people contacting Break the Cycle for help and information
  • Conducting research on domestic violence- and youth-related issues
  • Assisting with developing substantive program materials for distribution in print and online
  • Participating in program data tracking and evaluation
  • Maintaining program and office organizational systems
  • Providing support to the program staff in the development and implementation of program initiatives
  • Other online program, advocacy, resource-related and administrative duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • BA degree or equivalent work experience
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills including web design and/or programming skills; proficiency with html, java script, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office programs
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail
  • Demonstrated commitment to public interest work, especially experience working on violence prevention and/or youth issues
  • Sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills and professionalism
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people
  • Patience, enthusiasm and a positive attitude
Salary

Position pays $29,000 to $32,000, depending on experience. Break the Cycle offers a generous array of benefits including but not limited to health, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, 403(b) retirement plan and vacation leave.

Youth Education Coordinator, Los Angeles
Job Summary

The Youth Education Coordinator works on a variety of projects which further the domestic violence prevention and early intervention work of Break the Cycle, including in-person education of youth, distribution of Break the Cycle’s education materials and public education. The Youth Education Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Programs and supervises volunteers and interns.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Implementing Break the Cycle’s domestic violence prevention curriculum and conducting other education and outreach efforts
  • Serving as primary contact with community members seeking Break the Cycle’s in-person presentations and education products
  • Assisting with production, implementation and evaluation of Break the Cycle’s Ending Violence DVD project
  • Acting as project manager for the organization’s public education campaigns
  • Conducting research on domestic violence- and youth-related issues
  • Assisting with developing program materials for volunteers, clients and community members
  • Participating in program data tracking and evaluation
  • Maintaining program and office organizational systems
  • Providing support in the development and implementation of education program initiatives
  • Other education program-related and administrative duties as assigned
Qualifications

  • Car, valid driver’s license and insurance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs

Unpaid Internships, Los Angeles

Looking to start a career in nonprofits, PR or special events? Want to help change the world? Break the Cycle is seeking interns to join our team of energetic professionals committed to social change! Break the Cycle is a domestic violence law center that promotes the health and protects the rights of youth. Break the Cycle is accepting applications for three types of internships:

Development & Communications (Several positions available)

Development & Communications Interns will work with our development team, providing support in the areas of special events, grants and communications. Responsibilities may include:
  • Planning and soliciting partners for Break the Cycle’s annual fundraising event – Savor the Season.
  • Researching and profiling foundation, corporate and individual donor prospects.
  • Developing and drafting grant proposals.
  • Publicizing Break the Cycle’s work and upcoming events to local and national media.

Programs (Several positions available)

The Program Interns provide support to our staff in the delivery of direct services to youth ages 12 to 24. Interns will receive training on domestic and dating violence, Break the Cycle's services, and other relevant areas.
  • Teaching Break the Cycle's preventive education program in middle schools, high schools, after-school programs, community organizations and youth groups.
  • Responding to calls and emails from people seeking help and information.
  • Working with our youth peer leadership program in high schools and youth groups.
  • Creating a listing of nation-wide referrals for victims of domestic and dating violence.
  • Assisting with outreach and other administrative support for Break the Cycle's educational and programmatic goals.
  • Drafting and updating educational materials or assisting with original research.

Interns work an average of 8-10 hours per week in our offices near LAX. This is an unpaid internship program (length of internship can be discussed).
