Accomplishments and impact

  • Break the Cycle provided confidential advice, counsel and/or referrals to approximately 530 young people in 2003, assisting them to escape abusive relationships or homes. In 2004, Break the Cycle will reach an additional 900 young people in need.
  • In addition, each month Break the Cycle staff attorneys provide an average of 130 hours of legal representation and broader advocacy to clients.
  • Of clients receiving these in-depth services, 52% were represented in court by a Break the Cycle staff attorney, helping them secure domestic violence restraining orders, custody, visitation, and child support orders; 83% received broader legal advocacy services, and 60% were connected to ongoing support services in the community which will help them sustain violence-free lives.
