BILINGUAL STAFF ATTORNEY
JOB SUMMARY
The Staff Attorney will carry out the law-based education and outreach services and legal services provided by Break the Cycle. The attorney must be a creative advocate who can work equally well with �at-risk� youth, community leaders, social service providers and volunteers. The Staff Attorney reports directly to the Associate Director and supervises volunteers and interns.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Teaching �Ending Violence� and conducting other education and outreach to youth and adults
Interviewing and representing clients in domestic violence-related court proceedings
Providing advice, counsel and/or referral services over the telephone to callers
Conducting training and ongoing supervision of volunteer attorneys, law students and other volunteers
Assisting with program data tracking and evaluation
Community building and forging and managing collaborations with schools, youth groups and service providers
Developing materials for volunteers, clients and the community at large
Legal research and writing
Other various duties as assigned by the Associate Director
QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary:
Licensed attorney in California
Bilingual in Spanish and English
California driver�s license and a car
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong interpersonal and supervision skills
Legal research and writing skills
Ability to work with diverse groups of people
Patience
Preferred:
Background working with youth in crisis
Experience with program evaluation and development
Experience working in nonprofit settings
