Date/Relationship Violence Event
Date/Relationship Violence EventHosted by: West Nassau High School
Students from my HOPE (Health) classes will conglomerate with the Drama and Art classes to advertise this critical issue. HOPE will already be on this unit. Drama students will give dramatic displays of fictitious short plays concerning abuse and domestic violence. Our classes are 1 1/2 hours block scheduling, thus we can accommodate this February remembrance month and deliver. Micah's Place will send a speaker to address the issue first to all our classes. They will offer a time for questions as well as have a panel discussion with the HOPE teacher, art teacher, and drama instructor in small groups. Next, drama students will display their skills incorporating the short plays involving abuse. Students will discuss situations here at school and those outside in the community they are familiar. Art students will draw pictures of the faces of abuse, then display. My students, having covered this automatically, will read articles, view DVDs, and explore the internet of abuse cases, then write 10 main idea/ purpose statements on colored paper. Each strip of paper students will make a chain and these will be displayed throughout the school for us to "Break the Chains" of Abuse. Superintendent, WN principal and asst. principals, dean, school board members, other classes, Directors of Institutions will be attending. The project worked out extremely well previously last year.
